My Work

So much has happened in the past few months.  First, I was just a transcriber for this company and was still competing my head off with the rest of the team.  Hah!  Yeah, I'm not kidding.  I was.  At my age, I'm not supposed to be competing head-to-head with younger people anymore.  That's why I had to prove my mettle so that I could go up the ladder this time.

And my hard work paid off.  I took advantage of the opening in our office and our Team Leader gave her go-signal and even if I'm not too keen on applying, I still applied for the position of an editor.  I guess it was the right time to do so since I failed the first time I tried.  The person who interviewed me most likely saw that in me too that's why I was one of those who got promoted.

Being in this position entails more responsibilities though.  On the first day of work, I felt like I wanted to go back to being just a transcriber.  But then again, I didn't want to go back to competing for segments with others.  Because for one, if I didn't get to have more segments for that day, I'd feel bad because I was usually the one who would have the most number of segments.

So, I chose to be an editor and that's where I am now.  But, as I have told my Team Leader now, I am so grateful to our first Team Leader because she was the one who encouraged me to work and strive harder in order to be at par with my colleagues since I've been known to be a good at what I do right from the start.

Just imagine, when I was starting, I wouldn't go over my segment and just be contented with what I've typed.  I would be graded and the editors would still find mistakes in my work.  Yes, I've gotten such low grades too.  But when my Team Leader called my attention regarding that, I had to change my attitude towards work and it really worked.  I always thought at that time that I would erase having a grade of 87, 88, 89.  I wanted grades that were in the 90's - 92, 93, 94, 95, et cetera.

I found that it was just mindsetting.  I told myself that time that I had to do this better every time.  I had to listen very hard to every segment and not to be careless.  I enjoyed what I was doing and I knew it was the job for me, no matter what I did.  That's why I'm in this job right now.  It's actually my first time to have a really regular job, with benefits, and even a promotion.  I've been with this company for a year now and still going strong with my job.

What more could I ask for?  I would just have to keep doing better every time, every day.  I want to thank whoever has been guiding me all this time.  I owe it all to you.

I just pray that people will also find their niche in this world like I did.  Search for yours.  I did.
